provide a simple, secure form to register details of the deceased
online. Submitting this information just once will ensure that their
details are removed from many company's mailing lists and databases.
The majority of responsible companies who use the Deceased Preference
Service update their files on a monthly basis, so registering can
take up to two months to become effective. The UK's Fraud Prevention Service, CIFAS, identified 9000 cases of fraud by criminals impersonating the deceased in 2002.
